Java On the Square, Bentonville

Last night was one of those soup eating nights. So I decided to go to Java on the Square in Bentonville to check out their soups and coffee drinks. I had the spicy baja chicken enchilada soup and it was incredible. The flavors were intense and went very well together. It was served in a large cup and was pretty cost effective. The place is very quant and would be great for reading a nice book, chatting with friends, or surfing the internet. I had a vanilla latte which was decent. The service was ok.

Fish City, Rogers Arkansas

Yesterday I had lunch at Fish City, located in the Promenade Mall. It’s right next to Starbucks and P.F Chengs.

I loved the place. Great small atmosphere and the food was delicious. I had the traditional Fish and chips and it was very good. Everything was in a timely manner and the food was hot and tasted fresh. The service was also very good. Out waiter was very pleasant and was great all around.

The Burger and Po Boy sandwich was also good!

Oh, I almost forgot! If you haven’t ever had fried pickles, this is the place to try them. They were incredible delicious! If you already know how great fried pickles are, this place will likely be your favorite! Loved them!!

Rib Crib, Rogers

I like ribs. Actually I love ribs. I ate at the rib crib today and here’s my review of it. The place is pretty hidden. It’s not really hidden, but I honestly have driven by it probably a hundred times and never really noticed it. It’s right by the bowling alley in Rogers.

When you walk into this place, you are immediately overtaken with the delicious smell of barbeque sauce. It smelled amazing. If you’re into country music, this is also a good place for you! We were introduced by a nice hostess who showed us to our table and was very friendly. The friendliness stopped there.

Our waitress, Amber we will call her, (cause that’s her name) was unfriendly, unknowledgeable of what they did and did not have, and really just seemed like she didn’t want to be there. I asked three questions, (basic questions like does this come with this) and she had no clue. The service was at best, below average, and borderline really bad.

The food, however, was good. I had the all you can eat ribs which also came with all you can eat sides for only 10.99. I consider that a pretty good deal! The ribs weren’t the best I’ve ever had, but they were good. The sides were hot and very good as well. (I had cole slaw, green beans, and potato salad)

The Smoked Chicken Caesar Wrap and the Bar-B-Rito were also good. There was a hair on one of our food items. After Amber came and saw the hair, she informed us that she would go talk to her manager to see what she would do. It would have been nice if the manager or someone had come by to apologize for this or something but that didn’t happen. What we got was Amber quickly walking by the table stating in a low and almost unrecognizable voice “it’s taken care of.” We later found out that this meant that that particular meal was free.

At any rate, this place gets a C-. (Most of that is based on service…)

Olive Garden, Rogers

I went to the Olive Garden in Rogers last night. It’s fairly new, so I thought I would check it out. I of course have been to many olive gardens before, in fact, I’ve worked at one.

We were told that there would be a 35 minutes wait which is not surprising for a Friday night. To our surprise, we were seated within 15 minutes. Our waitress Nora was very warm and friendly and provided great service. (she even told me I was a nice guy :))

Appetizers: We began by trying the appetizer sample. The calamari was incredible. Sometimes calamari is over cooked, but it was wonderful. The Fried Zucchini was also incredible. It was very well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The toasted meat ravioli was a disaster. It was dry, tasteless, and very bland. I would suggest getting something like the stuffed mushrooms or mozzarella sticks if you so choose to have three appetizers!

I also had the: Chicken & Gnocchi Veronese

Sautéed chicken with traditional Italian dumplings and roasted red peppers in a parmesan and ricotta cheese sauce.

This was simply delicious! The Italian dumplings were a great touch for the sautéed chicken, and it was cooked perfectly. The flavors were unique and well put together. I would highly recommend this. It’s a new dish, so you probably haven’t had it before, and you should!

I also had the: Grilled Shrimp Caprese

Grilled marinated shrimp served over angel hair pasta with melted mozzarella, fresh basil and tomatoes in a garlic-butter sauce.

Let me just say that the garlic-butter sauce was good enough for me to let out a “man that’s good” moan. Yeah, that good. This dish I actually liked more than the chicken one because the sauce was just amazing. The basil and tomatoes really put this dish over the top! It was tasty and is also a new dish. So if you like shrimp, I would highly recommend this dish.

Of course the breadsticks and salad at Olive garden are second to none really. They are both delicious. I had the peach tea which was also very good. I was sort of hoping that my first review would be one were I could say bad things, but honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the Olive Garden. The service was great, the food was even better, and the atmosphere was perfect. Just don’t have the ravioli for an appetizer and you’ll be fine!

PS: I have always loved their stuffed chicken marsala. They have now added two other stuffed chicken options that look delicious. Check them out on the Olive garden site.
